Phyciodes tharos

Common name: Pearl Crescent

Appearance:

  • Upperside is orange with black borders, marginal areas are crossed by thin marks
  • Underside is very pale with a dark patch that has a light colored crescent in the middle
  • 1-1.5 inch wingspan

Found: In pastures, road edges, vacant lots, open pine fields

Major foodplant: Asters

Adults are active in: April - October
